Sussex County Genealogical Society Meets Saturday

The Sussex County Genealogical Society will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon,  Saturday, April 18, at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library. The guest speaker will be Debbie Hooper, who will discuss tax lists. While many researchers concentrate on census records and other online lists to find their ancestors, many overlook the valuable information provided by tax records.

These records are often not online, so they may only be viewed at a government agency. As the old saying goes, “Nothing is sure except death and taxes.” Since everyone's ancestors have paid taxes since they first arrived in America, these records can be used to follow them through their travels in America.

The Sussex County Genealogical Society is an organization dedicated to promoting genealogy and education to encourage and instruct in genealogical research. The scope of interests reaches far beyond Sussex County and members concentrate on providing good and useful information to those researching their ancestry.

SCGS has monthly membership meetings from September to May with informative and helpful presentations. The Education Committee holds multi-week spring and fall discussion groups. A special-interest online research group has grown from members’ suggestions. For up-to-date meetings and times, go to www.scgsdelawar
