What Is It?

What is this crudely fashioned thing?  Two sticks nailed together in a tee square format.  Back in the 1950s and before, a device like this (usually nailed out of two plaster laths) was used in the cucumber fields.  As the cucumber picker walked down the row of cucumbers he or she would drag the bottom of the tee across the foliage of the plant moving the leaves back out of the way so he could spot ripe cucumbers.  Once located the cucumber would be picked and placed in the basket he was carrying in his other hand.  I have never heard a name for this tool.
