Prior to 1912 a postcard of State Street looking East. The large sign/awning displayed advertises Hearne and Smith Jewelers. Ira Franklin Hearn (1876-1958) and Carl Henry Smith (1884-1967) had the business until 1912 when they dissolved the partnership. Carl Smith was to open a jewelry store in Pocomoke but may have instead moved to Salisbury. Carl was the brother of Ira Hearne's wife, Dollie. Ira would continue the jewelry business (mainly watches) in Delmar for many years.
