D2 and the 133 Freight Car Blockage

In March of 1968 while Delmar D2 was pulling a 133 freight cars through Salisbury a two-foot piece of track broke.
The train blocked a number of street/railroad intersections for the next 2 and half hours while a piece of track was cut out and a new piece welded in.  Trainmaster S. T. Tate was called down from Delmar.  C. R. Melvin was the Engineer and H. L. Adkins was the conductor.  The person most busy was the Flagman, Earl Sterling, who manually lifted and pulled down a crossing barrier to let traffic around the caboose.
