Dora Mills - 1939

WOMAN LOSES FINGERS IN SAUSAGE GRINDER
Delmar, Sept 29 - A sausage grinder amputated three fingers of Miss Dora Mills, 26, in the store of her brother, Eugene Mills, here yesterday.  First aid as given by neighbors to the injured right hand and she was taken to Peninsular General hospital.

Although Eugene Mills is described as a brother of Dora, he was an uncle. Dora Mae Mills was the daughter of Carl L. Mills and Flora Truitt.  Flora (who was the daughter of Benjamin and Ellen Palmer Truitt of Delmar) would die in 1909 leaving two daughters; Dora and Beatrice.  Beatrice was bought up by the Truitt / Wootten families and Dora was bought up by the Mills family.  Dora Mae (1909-1971) never married.  Beatrice (1908 -1984) married a Winklevoss.

The Mills family of William Joseph Mills (1863-1937) ran a grocery store (and worked on the railroad) and the sons were barbers in town.  They lived on Elizabeth street.  Benjamin Mills married Edith Mae Waller.  They had as children; Carl L. (1885-1939) was a barber, Walter Lee (1891-1980) was a barber, William Eugene (1892-1973) salesman , Helen (Morris)(1894-1971) before being married in 1927 to Reece Morris, was a telegraph operator, James B. (Jim)  (1906-1963 ) was a teacher and athletic coach see pictures of Delmar Maryland teams previously posted, he was a pitching ace in college, he taught at Wicomico High school as a coach and driving instructor.
