Claude Ellis Phillips - Delmar High School Class of 1917 Attended Delaware College Class of 1921 with a major in agriculture.
I did not have a photo of Dr. Bacon in the previous post but it happens at the Laurel Junction Flea market is a 1921 Delaware College yearbook and I had obtained a snapshot of Claude R. Phillips yearbook picture.
Claude Ellis Phillips (1900-1981) was the son of Harland Edgar Phillips (1874-1931) and Tillora Ellis "Lola" Ellis (1879-1961). He married Ruth Ellegood. Kenney (1900-1968) daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Kenney in 1923, and they had a number of children. He would work for the University of Delaware as a Agronomist.
Claude was a weed scientist and professor at UD, he also wrote "Wildflowers of Delaware and the Eastern Shore" and other books on weeds. Delaware has one Herbarium and it is named after Claude E Phillips. It is located at Delaware State University.
Mr. Phillips once said he "accepted a temporary position with the university in 1927 and retired 38 years later."
