Vaughn, born in 1895, was the son of John Leonard Hastings and Nancy Nemorah Hastings of Delmar. He served in the Navy from 1917 to 1921. Vaughn would mainly live in Seaford. He was editor of a couple of newspapers, one in Federalsburg and the other in Seaford. He also taught in schools and colleges and worked for DuPont. He married Katherine Goslin Stevens in 1923 from Seaford.
In the 1950s they moved to the Tucson Arizona area. Vaughn died 1962, Katharine died in 1967.
