Archie Allen White ran a classic 1930s gas station that served beer, operated as a bar, and sold oysters in Delmar, Delaware in 1939. What was unusual for the time was he was Black. He was the son of Albert White and Georgia Cooper White. Born in 1897 in Laurel and died in 1966 in Philadelphia. By 1942 he was a tapman (bartender) in Philadelphia. He would marry Margaret Jones in 1943.
So is the station between York and Rose the Pure Oil station or was there another one in that block?
